Using the Scales between Two Choices

This symbol is useful when a decision needs to be made between two possible alternatives.

  1. Visualize or remember a large scale used for weighing objects, with a center pole and two arms, one at either side, each with a pan hanging suspended from it.

  2. Place a symbol or model representing the other possible choice in the other pan.

  3. Put another symbol or model representing the other possible choice in the other pan.

  4. Turn away from your inner picture to the count of ten.

  5. Turn back to look at the scales to see which of the trays is lower than the other. That one will be the correct choice, as it carries more weight.

  6. If both brays are evenly balanced, you can assume that either choice would be acceptable.
