Detachment from Outer Forms

As we proceed with the inner work using the various Cutting the Ties techniques, we will automatically be detaching more and more from authority figures and security symbols on which we have relied in the past for support and direction. This process could easily leave a vacuum which needs to be filled with a legitimate alternative, as life does not tolerate a vacuum and hastens to fill it with whatever is available.

So, at the same time, the work has been showing us in the various ways to make contact with the Hi C or inner guide. However, many people mention that they experience a painful wrench when trying to release from the outer contacts in order to seek help from within. In addition, they are afraid to trust the inner voice or thoughts that are forthcoming when they do seek help from the Hi C. I am often asked one common question which is, "How can we tell when it is really the Hi C giving a message and when is it our own conscious mind or ego?" Learning the difference requires practice, as with everything else we have ever undertaken to learn.

Many people comment that the insights from the Hi C have a different flavor or feeling and produce a sense of their being right or appropriate. These insights are also often unexpected and not something that would have occurred to them and therefore come as a surprise as in "Oh, so that’s the answer!" At the same time, we can apply a yardstick to determine whether the answer we are receiving appears to be selfish or in some way a negative reaction or containing a hidden selfish motive.

Then there is always the method I was given many years ago when I commented to a friend that I would like to be given a definite sign when something that was coming into my mind was really proceeding from the Hi C and not merely from my own wishful thinking or ego. To my surprise I felt an ice-cold shower starting at the back of my neck and moving very fast down my spine. Apparently that was the sign in answer to my request. So, do as I did, and ask to be given a clear signal that what you are receiving is initiated from the Hi C and not from the ego.

This entire process involves surrender to the Hi C, which also means being willing to relinquish our own personal control. In other words, we must first arrive at the position where we can honestly say, "Thy will; not mine," Thy referring to the Hi C.

But it is no use to pretend we are at that point if we really cannot say with conviction, "I accept whatever answer I receive." The exercise of the Black and White Birds is a great aid to the attainment of this initial position, which is an essential requisite for receiving a clear answer from the Hi C.

When we are able to carry this attitude into our daily life, we will find that worry, anxiety and fear will no longer be our constant companions.

Regular practice of "Surrender, Trust and Accept" is the key in this endeavor, followed by a deliberate decision to turn the attention away from the problems and their possible outcome and trust the Hi C to bring whatever It knows is for our highest good, but also to avoid the temptation to return to the questioning, worrying and thinking about the problem. Let go and give it over to the Hi C to solve.
